Opponents of Gaddafi reject peace initiative of African Union

Opponents of the Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi on Monday rejected a peace initiative of the African Union (AU), AFP reports, referring to the head of the National Council of Libya (NSL) Abdul Jalil.

The opposition is against any efforts to end the conflict that do not suppose the resignation of Gaddafi, Jalil said at a news conference in the city of Benghazi, the main stronghold of the rebellion, RIA Novosti reported.

An AU delegation arrived in the Libyan capital Tripoli on Sunday to stop the bloodshed between the rebels and the forces of Gaddafi. NATO leaders agreed to the arrival of representatives of the African Union mission.

On Monday, Commissioner of the Board of the African Union on the security and peace Ramtane Lamamra said that in the course of the negotiations was discussed and the question of the possible resignation of Gaddafi government.
