Nalchik attack defendants on hunger strike

More than 20 defendants on trial at the Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria over the attack on Nalchik in October 2005 have gone on hunger strike due to the fact that they were deprived of their televisions and refrigerators, YUGA.ru reports.

Militants attacked Nalchik in October 13-14, 2005. 12 civilians and 35 law enforcement officers were killed as a result of the attack.

One of the defendants, Azamat Akhkubekov read a statement from 24 defendants, who reported the hunger strike was beginning on Thursday, RIA Novosti reports. According to one of the trial participants, the defendants are protesting the actions of the administration which took away their television sets and refrigerators, purchased with the money of the defendants’ relatives.
