Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Oman and Qatar to create new international transport corridor

A five-sided agreement to establish a new international Uzbekistan -Turkmenistan - Iran - Oman - Qatar transport corridor, connecting Central Asia with the ports of the Persian Gulf, will be signed at the end of April, the first vice prime minister of Uzbekistan, Rustam Azimov, said on Friday.

In October last year during a visit to Ashgabat, Uzbek President Islam Karimov put forward an initiative to create an Uzbekistan - Turkmenistan - Iran -Oman - Qatar transport corridor. According to the Uzbek side, the establishment of railway communication from Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan to the southern ports of Iran will help to create an important network between the Persian and Oman Gulfs and the countries of Central Asia.
