South Ossetia hopes for recognition of its independence in the near future, President of South Ossetia Eduard Kokoity said after talks with Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov, RIA Novosti reports.
Russia was the first state to recognize South Ossetia. It happened after the Russian-Georgian war in August 2008. Russian forces were protecting Ossetians from Georgian forces. Nicaragua, Venezuela and Nauru have recognized South Ossetia.
Kokoity said that the country is searching for foreign investment. South Ossetia is negotiating with Ukraine, Belarus and other states. South Ossetia is cooperating with Venezuela.
