The Caspian states may develop a convention on the sea this year, Iranian special representative for Caspian affairs Mohammed Mekhti Akhundzade said at a session of the special working group of the Caspian states in Baku on Tuesday, Trend reports.
Iran is ready for constructive cooperation in developing the convention. The Iranian official expressed hope that it will be complete before the start of the presidents' summit in Moscow. He said that Caspian states are actively cooperating in the economic sphere and that there is great potential for further development.
Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Halaf Halafov said that his country hopes to reach agreements on some disputed points. The previous summit in Baku on November 18 allowed the current one to be held. The sides will continue talks on the achievements of the previous summit and work on the convention.
