Youth extremism discussed in Dagestan

The Russian plenipotentiary presidential envoy to the North Caucasian Federal District, Alexander Khloponin, held the third session of the Council for Youth Policy in Yessentuki on April 25, RIA Dagestan reports.


The chairman of the committee for youth policy of Dagestan Z. Kakhrimanov, deputies of the city assembly of Makhachkala K. Kurbanov and M. Bagomayev, chairman of the Youth Parliament T. Gusayev and young scientist U. Khalitov took part in the meeting. They discussed extremism in the North Caucasus and the Mashuk-2011 youth forum.


Khloponin said that promotion of extremism is a problem and proposed initiating counter-propaganda, using TV and the internet. The envoy proposed using foreign experience. He added that Mashuk-2011 will be held on July 3-19.


Gusayev said that there is still no understanding of extremism among young people. There are no clear reasons why youths join extremist groups. Social and economic aspects are not the only reasons. Other problems are corruption, a lack of state ideology and a lack of a feeling of justice.
