The Abkhazian Foreign Ministry was surprised to receive a message from EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, in which she expressed concern at the visit of Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov to Abkhazia and South Ossetia without Georgia’s approval on April 24-26, News Armenia reports.
The Abkhaz Foreign Ministry called the message “absurd”, as Abkhazia and Russia have inter-governmental and diplomatic ties, the ministry said on Friday, RIA Novosti reports.
Moscow and Sukhumi have sovereign rights to develop their relations and exchange official and working visits without informing other states, the Abkhaz Foreign Ministry said.
