Russian Premier Vladimir Putin will take part in the ceremonial laying
of the foundation stone of the Kutaisi Monument of Honor to Fallen
Soldiers of WW II , which had been destroyed on December 19th 2009, at
Poklonaya Hill in Moscow , reports RIA Novosti, citing the
governmental press service.
The Moscow monument will be named "Fighting fascism we were together".
The Honor Memorial was blown up and during the dismantling works two
people - 8 year-old Nino Djincharadze and her mother - were accidently
killed by fragments of the monument. The Georgian Foreign Ministry
said the central part of the monument was not taken down - the
horseman "Mzechabuki" was to be reconstructed and transferred to
another place. The Georgian opposition called this dismantling an act
of vandalism. The Russian government also criticized it. Vladimir
Putin offered to reconstruct the monument in Moscow, and was supported
by the Union of Georgians in Russia.
Moscow mayor Yuri Luzhkov, the State Duma speaker, chairman of
"Edinaya Rossia" Boris Grizlov and others will also take part in the
opening ceremony. Georgian representatives including Nino Burdjanidze
and Zurab Nogadeili will also be among the participants.
