Operational headquarters in Kabardino-Balkaria have unveiled the names of seven of the ten militants killed by law-enforcement bodies on Friday on the border of Stavropol Territory and Kabardino-Balkaria, RIA Novosti reports.
The operation took place on Friday in the village of Progress in the Kirov district of Stavropol Territory. According to the National Counter-Terrorism Committee, the FSB and Interior Ministry forces in the North Caucasus Federal District surrounded a group of militants in a private house in the village. After they refused to surrender, the police opened fire.
As a result of the operation, ten militants, including two women, were killed.
According to intelligence data, the killed militants were involved in the organization and perpetration of many terrorist attacks on the territory of Kabardino-Balkaria, including the murder of tourists from Moscow and the mining of a cable car in February 2011, the sabotage of the Baksan hydroelectric power station in July 2010 and terrorist attacks on Nalchik in May 2011, as well as a series of killings of civilians and law-enforcement officials. The militants were preparing new attacks.
