USA eliminates Osama bin Laden

The leader of Al-Qaeda, Osama bin Laden, has been killed in Pakistan, US President Barack Obama said, RIA Novosti reports.


Osama bin Laden was responsible for thousands of deaths in New York and Washington on September 11, 2001.


Vice-President Joseph Biden, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Intelligence Chief James Clapper, National Security Advisor Thomas Donilon, CIA Chief Leon Panetta and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Michael Mullen were present at Obama's speech.


The operation was held in Islamabad. Several marines arrived in Abbottabad via helicopters, 60 km from the Pakistani capital, where the terrorist was hiding. The US troops said that the house where bin Laden was hiding was turned into a fortress.


Hundreds of citizens gathered at the White House after the announcement. Some tried to climb over the fence. Many brought US flags with them.
George Bush Jr. praised the efforts and said that America has demonstrated that justice will be done regardless of the time needed.


The US State Department warned US citizens abroad about increased risks due to the recent operation in Pakistan.
