Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Akbar Salehi has arrived in Qatar today, Trend reports.
Salehi discussed the situation in the region with the Emir of Qatar Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Yasim Al Thani.
Iran and its neighbor states have had tensions recently, due to anti-government protests in Bahrain, where 75% of the population demand more political rights.
Bahrain requested members of the Cooperation Council of the Arab States of the Gulf (CCASG) to send additional forces to stop the protesters. Several states, including Saudi Arabia, sent hundreds of troops.
Iran expressed support of the protesters and condemned the CCASG for suppressing the Shiite protests. As a response, CCASG members accussed Iran of interfering in their interior affairs.
