Parliament Speaker and leader of the United Russia Party, Boris Gryzlov, said that the speaker of the Federation Council, Sergey Mironov, needs to resign, RIA Novosti reports.
Mironov’s dismissal procedure was initiated by an office of the United Russia Party in Volgograd, as a result of his disagreement with the work of the legislative and executive authorities, ITAR-TASS reports.
The speaker of the legislative council of Saint-Petersburg, Vadim Tulpanov, said on Wednesday that Mironov was informed about consideration of his dismissal on May 18.
Mironov made a speech in Saint-Petersburg on May 1, calling it the most corrupt city.
The Russian media say that the row does not mean that Mironov will be dismissed, it may be a political step to change his image. The Russian Communist Party and the Liberal Democratic Party support the dismissal.
The Russian prime-minister’s press-secretary, Dmitry Peskov, said that Putin was being informed about the issue. The deputy secretary of the Presidium of the General Council, Andrey Isayev, said that the chances of his dismissal are high.
