Nikolai Patrushev to monitor Russian Armed Forces

The secretary of the Russian Security Council, Gen. Nikolai Patrushev, will monitor the activities of the national armed forces, according to new provisions of this constitutional authority, posted on Friday night on the Kremlin web page, RIA Novosti reports.

"The Security Council secretary <...> carries <...> control of the armed forces of the Russian Federation, other troops, military formations and bodies, involving governmental regulatory and supervisory authorities" the statement reads.

The previous edition of the statement allowed the secretary only "to supervise the implementation of decisions of the Security Council.”

The new version of the document expands the powers not only of the Secretary, but of the Security Council as a whole.
