Informal meeting of CIS begins in Gorki

An informal summit of the CIS was opened on Saturday evening in Gorki,
a town situated near Moscow.  The summit followed an informal summit
of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO), which also took
place in Gorki, RIA Novosti reports.
Opening the summit, President of the Russian Federation Dmitry
Medvedev greeted President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, a new
participant in the council of heads of CIS member states.
As a source in the Kremlin reported before the summit, there is no
fixed agenda for the summit, the heads of the CIS member states are
supposed to share their opinions about the situation and perspectives
for subsequent cooperation.
Particularly, it is planned to discuss the preliminary results of
Russia’s presidency of the organization. The meeting is devoted to the
65th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War, which is the main issue
of Russia’s presidency of the CIS this year. It is expected that the
heads of the CIS member-states will make a joint address to war
veterans and workers of home front.

Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Tadzhikistan Emomalii
Rahmon, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, President
of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, Acting President of Moldova Mihai
Ghimpu, Prime-Minister of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the
Executive Secretary of the CIS Sergei Lebedev are taking part in this
meeting.
