Interior minister holds operative council in Caucasus

Russian Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev hosted an operating council in Pyatigorsk on May 12, RIA Novosti reports.

The terrorist threat in the region is still high. Terrorist attacks target law-enforcing structures.

Nurgaliyev said that terrorists are currently using tactics of “individual terror”, aimed against police officers eliminating militants, heads of local autonomies, public and religious figures and people fighting terrorism and extremism.

The minister reminded that his structure, the FSB and the National Counter-Terrorism Committee had special operations to eliminate militants and their support. Several criminals, including militant leaders, died in the North Caucasus.

He said that the North Caucasus has huge amounts of weapons, especially in Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia and Dagestan.
