OSCE ready to return to Georgia.

Support of Georgia by the OSCE will become more effective, the deputy speaker of the Georgian parliament told  journalists on the end of the meeting with a delegation from the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, reports Georgia Today.

“We have received a promise that this help, this support and political activity will be more effective,” Gigi Tsereteli said after a meeting with the president of the OSCE PA, Joao Soares, who arrived in Tbilisi on Tuesday.

The meeting also included discussions on the agenda of the next session of Parliamentary Assembly, at which Georgia is going to present its new strategy concerning Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

“We have arranged a very interesting agenda for the next session in Oslo. We will, probably, prepare a special resolution, present a new strategy concerning the occupied territories. We want to achieve the most essential support from the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE,” the Vzglyad business daily quoted Tsereteli as saying.

In his turn, Soares called for the return of the OSCE observer mission to Georgia, which officially finished its work in June of 2009 when Russia vetoed the extension of its mandate.

“The Georgian position on a peaceful solution of the conflict is very important, especially for those refugees who should return to their homes,” Soares said.

He mentioned that the issues connected with the return of refugees and security in the country will be considered at the next meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly. The first meetings of the delegation headed by Soares were in the Georgian parliament, where he met with the parliamentary majority and minority.

Later there was a meeting with Georgia’s minister on the questions of European and Euro-Atlantic integration, Georgy Baramidze, after which he again spoke of the necessity of the return of the observer mission to Georgia and declared that the OSCE would continue fighting for a consensus to be reached on this question.

Meetings in the Foreign Ministry of Georgia and with department on problems of refugees and settlement are planned for the visit, as well as talks with President Mikheil Saakashvili.
