Meskheti Turks living in Azerbaijan who are willing to return to Georgia will gain the status of repatriates, spokesman of the Veten society Shamseddin Sarvarov said, Georgia Online reports.
The official noted that a commission was established to speed up the process of migration of Meskhit Turks to Georgia. The commission consists of officials from Georgian ministries.
Veten held meetings with members of the commission. They reached an agreement on the status of repatriates. Preparations have already started.
13,000 Meskhit Turks living in Azerbaijan have sent requests to return to Georgia. 5,428 requests have been handed to the Georgian side.
