Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held today a closed meeting with the representatives of Hamas and Fatah. Afterwards he announced to journalists that the two movements, that only recently declared a truce, had agreed on a joint statement on Palestine, RIA Novosti reported.
"The head of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has already familiarized himself with the statement. He gave his appreciation and thanked the Russian side for providing a platform for a useful meeting," Lavrov said. Lavrov also mentioned that municipal elections in Palestine will be held in October instead of July.
