The Russian Foreign Ministry accused the regime of President Mikheil Saakashvili of violation of the right for the freedom of assembly. Moscow believes that the further use of force against the protesters will destabilize the situation in the country, said the authorized representative of the Foreign Ministry on human rights, democracy and the rule of law Konstantin Dolgov, RIA Novosti reported.
May 21-22 saw clashes in Tbilisi and Batumi between police and protesters demanding the resignation of Saakashvili and his government. Several protesters were injured.
