Azerbaijani President Ilkham Aliyev met the victims of the floods from
Sabirabad in the city of Shirvan after the flood from river Kura. The
victims are currently accommodated in tent camps, AzerTag reports.
The president was informed about the work. It was noted that the
population is well-supplied with food, water and everything necessary.
The civilians also receive the necessary medical help.
There are over 1500 people from 9 Sabirabad villages, mainly Dadashbeyli
and Garagiune, in the camp consisting of 176 tents.
Then under the chairmanship of Ilkham Aliyev the visiting meeting took place. The president noted that casualties were minimal due to measures taken in advance. He ordered speeding up strengthening of the river banks and dam construction.
Deputy Premier Abid Sharifov, Minister of Emergency Situations Kiamaleddin Heydarov, chairman of Amelioration and Water Economy Ahmed Ahmedzade, Internal Minister Ramil Usubov, Education Minister Misir Mardanov, Minister of Healthcare Ogtay Shiraliyev, president of Azerenergy Etibar Pirverdiyev and the head of executive power in Sabirabad region Heydar Abbasov informed about the situation.
Aliyev noted that water run-off never exceeded 1800-1900 cubic m per
second. But it reached 2400 cubic meters in the place of the flood. The
dam in Mursalli village of Sabirabad region is under reconstruction.
