Russian President heads for G8 summit

Russian President Dmitry Medvedv will leave for Deauville this evening, RIA Novosti reports. Issues of nuclear security, Middle East unrest and drug and cyber crimes are scheduled for discussion.

The Russian president will meet his French and US counterparts on Tuesday. Later he will have bilateral meetings with the German Chancellor, GB PM and Japanese PM.

The summit will be opened with a session of solidarity with Japan, which has suffered catastrophic earthquakes and nuclear breakdowns. These circumstances have brought international nuclear security to the top of the summit’s agenda.

The fight against terrorism and unrest in Arab countries will be discussed on the second day of the Summit.
