Armenian Parliament discusses amnesty bill

The Armenian Parliament has started discussions of the presidential proposition to declare an amnesty to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Armenian independence, News-Armenia reports.

The amnesty is proposed for several groups of convicts, all sentenced for short terms in prison. It will also shorten the terms for several categories of convicts.

According to the project, those who committed transgressions prior to May the 1st 2011 will be free from legal pursuit.

However, there are several factors limiting the amnesty, such as two or more convictions, failure to compensate the victims for damage and others.
