UN Security Council prepares Syria resolution

UK, France, Germany and Portugal have filed a resolution project on
Syria to the UN Security Council, Reuters reports on Thursday.

The document Reuters received condemns the violation of human rights
in Syria, including murders, illegal detentions, missing citizens,
torture of peaceful protesters, human rights activists and
journalists.

Syria has seen protests since mid-March. They started in Deraa, on the
border with Jordan. The protests quickly spread to other cities and
the outskirts of Damascus.

Protesters demand political and economic reforms. The government
passed a major reform program but the protests continue.

The USA and EU introduced sanctions against Syria and its President
Bashar Assad.
