Members of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) have decided to renew the membership of Iran in the organization, despite the active opposition of the US and Canada, Iranian English-language channel Press TV reports.
Most of the 54 members of the ECOSOC have voted for the resumption of Iran's membership in the organization, headquarters of the Iranian representative at the UN announced.
The Economic and Social Council of the United Nations is one of the main UN bodies. It consists of 54 members elected by the UN General Assembly for 3 years.
