Armenia releases 274 in amnesty

The Armenian authorities have released from penal institutions 274 people under the amnesty adopted at the suggestion of President Serzh
Sargsyan, RIA Novosti reported quoting the press secretary of the Penitentiary Department of the Ministry of Justice Arsen Babayan.

The National Assembly of Armenia on May 26 accepted the proposal of President Sargsyan to declare an amnesty in connection with the 20th anniversary of Armenia's independence. The same day the amnesty came into force.

Those released so far include former member of Armenian parliament Sasun Mikaelian and chief editor of "HaykakanZhamanak "( ArmenianTime) Nicol Pashinian, convicted in connection with the events of March 1, 2008.
