Mass Iranian naval training, codenamed Velayat-89, have concluded
today with a parade of warships and the participation of combat
aviation, ITAR-TASS reports, citing IRNA information agency.
According to the agency, a spokesman for the Iranian command, Hasem
Rostam Abadi, said that the exercises lasted 8 days with 150 training
operations successful accomplished. There were missile launches,
including Iran's latest modified low-range Fajr-5 missiles and Nur
anti-ship missiles.
They carried out an operation to free a civilian ship occupied by
hypothetical pirates and escort it to port Bender-Abbas.
The spokesman of the Iranian command believes that the primary
objective of the manoeuvers - providing security from the Hormuz
strait to the north-eastern Indian Ocean - had been accomplished.
“The manoeuvers of Iran's Naval Forces became a message of peace and
friendship to the countries of the region, confirming our
determination to protect peace and stability in it”, he noted.
