Railway tunnel built in Sochi

A railway tunnel has been built between the Central and Khostinsky
Districts of Sochi on May 2. President of the Russian Railways Company
Vladimir Yakunin arrived for the opening, RIA Novosti reports.

The tunnel is one of the main railway systems for the Olympic Games in
Sochi-2014. A parallel railway line will run through the tunnel. This
increases the capacity of trains per day from 54 to 153.

There are 6 railway facilities being built for the Olympic games,
including a multi-level terminal at Adler station. It is a unique
complex uniting railway, road, air and naval transport.

3,000 tons of metal constructions have been assembled in a year. 300
people are working round-the-clock, Sergey Abramov, head of the
directorate of railway stations of the Russian Railways Company, said.

Abramov said that they plan to complete the framework of the station
this year. It will be the most complicated transport network. It will
have 24,000 passengers per hour. The terminal is to be launched in the
third quarter of 2012.
