Iran has sent submarines to the Red Sea. This is the first time its
naval forces have gone so far from their territorial waters,
Associated Press reports.
Fars News said that the submarines had been escorting vessels fighting
pirates in the Arabian Sea. They left the vessels at the Gulf of Aden
and headed towards the Red Sea. There has been no detailed information
on the number or power of the submarines.
They will be collecting information on military vessels of other
states. Associated Press said that Iran wants to position itself as a
regional superpower.
