NATO and Russia have disagreements on European anti-missile systems

Russia and NATO cannot determine the appearance of European
anti-missile defenses and have disagreements on the issue, Russian
Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov said after the Russia-NATO session
in Brussels, RIA Novosti reports.

The disagreements mainly concern guarantees that European anti-missile
defenses will not be used against Russia.

The Russian-NATO council has only agreed on the work plan for the
defenses for 2011. Half a year was spent on discussions.

The minister underlined that the anti-missile defenses are the key
issue in Russian-NATO relations and has no clear solution. The
Russian-NATO summit in Lisbon opened new prospects in November 2010.

The sides agreed to establish joint missile defenses, based on the
territorial principle.
