Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Masimov has discussed the situation in the
region with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The president
arrived in Astana for the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation
Organization, News Kazakhstan reports.
Masimov welcomed Ahmadinejad at the airport. He wrote on Twitter that
they discussed the situation in the region and construction of
railways.
Astana will host a two-day summit today. Heads of state will hold a
council on Wednesday. According to tradition, the meeting will start
with the participation of only leaders of SCO states – Kazakhstan,
Kyrgyzstan, China, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The meeting will
continue with delegations from India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan, who
are observers at the SCO.
The presidents of Afghanistan and Turkmenistan and high-ranking
officials of the UN, CIS, EurAsEC, CSTO and ASEAN were invited to the
meeting as guests.
