Russia supports the integration of Afghanistan into the structures of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, as the situation in the country influences security in the whole region, Russian president Dmitry Medvedev told the SCO summit in Astana, Trend reported.
According to the president, Russia is supported by its partners on this issue.
“Russia hopes for close and multi-sided cooperation between the SCO and Afghanistan. Afghanistan is our neighbour and its participation in the activity of the organization can be effective,” Medvedev stated.
Afghanistan lodged an application for observer status at the SCO.
