As a result of the first day of the SCO summit the leaders of the states-members developed the basic document of the summit – the Astana Declaration of Decade.
"During the ten years of its activity, the SCO has successfully passed the path from institutionalization to the formation of efficient mechanisms of cooperation in various spheres," said the Declaration.
The Declaration states that it was succeeded to build effective cooperation in security, which is aimed at combating terrorism, separatism and extremism, drug trafficking and cross-border and organized crime. The Declaration of the SCO leaders also called for the establishment of a nuclear weapons-free zone in Central Asia, and use of cosmic space for peaceful purposes.
"An effective step in this direction will be the relevant protocol to the Treaty on a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in Central Asia to be signed by all states possessing nuclear weapons," said in the Declaration.
Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan signed agreement to establish a free trade zone in 2006, Trend reports.
The Declaration also opposed against "unilateral and unlimited capacity of missile defense systems", considering such initiatives a threat to international security.
The Declaration also calls upon member countries to resolve internal conflicts peacefully, particularly to cease armed confrontation in Lebanon and follow the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
"Internal conflicts and crises should be regulated exclusively by peaceful means, through political dialogue, the Declaration said. - The actions of the international community should be aimed at promoting national reconciliation processes and should be implemented strictly based on the international law, fully respecting the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as following the principle of noninterference in the internal affairs of each independent state."
