Russia and France have reached a deal on the purchase of French Mistral helicopter carriers, deputy chairman of the defense committee in the State Duma, Igor Barinov, stated, RIA Novosti reported.
Barinov said that some deputies called the purchase of Mistral a mistake.
In late May in Deauville the president of France, Nikolay Sarkozy, stated that France and Russia should sign the contract on the Mistrals by June 21, when the Prime Minister Putin of Russia is due to be in France.
However, a source in the government says that during Putin’s visit in France there are no plans to sign the agreement on helicopter carriers.
