Head of Kabardino Balkaria Arsen Kanokov has awarded Karina Mezova as
an honoured specialist in physical education and sport. Mezova, aged
28, reached the peak of Mount Everest in May, RIA Novosti reports.
She reached a height of 8,848 meters. 53-year old Abdul-Halim Olmezov
reached the peak in 2009.
Mezova started mountain climbing at the age of 10. She has climbed
Elbrus over a hundred times. She climbed Tian Shan, reaching Peak
Khan-Tengri at a height of 7,010 meters.
Meziva told Kanokov that she plans to climb another Himalayan peak,
K2, at a height of 8,611 meters.
Kanokov promised to provide financial support. Mezova presented
Kanokov with a doll that she had with her when climbing, dressed in
the national costume of Kabardino-Balkaria. The president said that he
will give it to his 9-year-old daughter as a present.
