Turkey to vote for Palestinian independence in UN

Palestine has requested Turkey to vote for its independence at the UN
session, Turkish President Abdullah Gul said, Trend reports.

President of the Palestinian National Authority Mahmoud Abbas said in
late May that there would be no progress in negotiations with Israel
in September and that he would address the UN instead.

The Palestinian National Authority has been trying to become an
independent state since 1967 and hopes that Israel will withdraw its
forces from the western bank of the Jordan, the Gaza Strip and East
Jerusalem. Israel refuses to change the borders.

Israel and Palestine ended their dialogue in September 2010 over
Israeli settlement construction.

US President Barack Obama said in May that Israel needs to shift its
borders to the where they were before 1967. Russia, the EU, the UN and
the USA support the initiative. The Israeli prime minister refuses to
restore the borders, saying that this would render the country
defenceless.
