On Tuesday the UN General Assembly appointed current UN General Secretary Ban Ki-moon for a second five-year term.
Last week the UN Security Council adopted a resolution on recommending that the General Assembly consider Ban Ki-moon as General Secretary, with the recommendation adopted by a majority of votes.
There were no other candidates for the office.
Russia supported the reelection of Ban Ki-moon, considering his positive contribution to the adoption of mechanisms and approaches of the UN's activity to current realities, new global challenges and threats.
Russia will continue its efforts to realize the unique potential of the international organization and consolidate its coordinating function in the sphere of solving key international problems, acting together with the General Secretary of the UN, RIA Novosti reports.
