Turkey’s prime minister has reiterated his call for a new constitution to be drafted by all sections of society on Saturday, Hurriyet Daily News reports.
“I call on everyone. Let’s draft the new constitution with the widest compromise,” Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly on Saturday.
“Arguments have recently shown us again that Turkey needs a new organic law and a serious reform of laws, more than ever,” he said.
“I call for all opposition parties, nongovernmental organizations, media and anyone who is related to the issue: Come, let us put aside all prejudices. Let’s talk, argue, present offers freely. Let’s work to complete each other and arrange the new constitution text through the widest compromise. As Turkey, let’s show that we can arrange the constitution, one of our basic problems, without being exposed to any pressure, with full, free will through civil policies and civil organizations,” Erdoğan said.
