The Organization of the Islamic Conference will host a session for
foreign ministers in Astana on Tuesday to discuss a new name and
symbol for the organization, RIA Novosti reports.
Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerzhan Kazykhanov underlined the role of the
meeting within the background of the latest events in the Middle East
and expectations of the new name and symbol of the organization and
the plan of the Human Rights Commission ‘Central Asia – OIC”. The
statement was made at a meeting with OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin
Ihsanoglu.
The OIC will have a session tomorrow to discuss the Middle East,
Africa, Afghanistan, Somalia and other regions, Ihsanoglu said.
Kazykhanov and Deputy Chairman of the Kazakh National Bank Bisengali
Tajiyakov will attend a presentation of a new banknote to mark the
Kazakh chairmanship of the OIC.
The OIC was established in Rabat in 1969. It consists of 57 states
with a combined population of about 1.2 billion.
