International Criminal Court orders arrest of Muammar Gaddafi

The International Criminal Code has ordered arrest of Libyan Leader Muammar Gaddafi, his son Saif Al-Islam and Reconnaissance Chief Abdulla as-Senussi today, RIA Novosti reports.

The prosecution of the ICC demanded permission for the arrest on May 16 for crimes against humanity. Prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo said that they had collected evidence that the three suspects hired mercenaries to kill anti-government protesters.

Libyan has been struck by disorders since February. The UN Security Council passed a resolution on Libya in March, allowing the ICC to investigate crimes against the Libyan population and bombing of Gaddafi’s army.
