The executive council of the International Monetary Fund appointed the minister of economy and financing of France, Christine Lagarde, to the position of the head of the IMF, France Press reported.
It is not revealed whether it was a unanimous voice appointment or not, RIA Novosti imforms.
It is a tradition that the World Bank is headed by the Americans, and the IMF – by the Europeans.
The second candidate for the position of the IMF head was the director of the Central Bank of Mexico, Augustine Carstens.
