Azerbaijan to host international conference of GUAM, Baltic Assembly and Benelux Assembly

Baku will host an international conference involving GUAM, the Baltic
Assembly and the Benelux Assembly in October, head of the Azerbaijani
parliamentary delegation to GUAM, Elton Mamedov, told Trend on
Thursday.


The conference will hold discussions of economy, trade, education,
culture and energy security. Azerbaijan initiated talks on old
conflicts, such as the Nagorno-Karabakh problem.


The GUAM format was established by post-soviet states in 1997 at a
summit of the European Unionin Strasburg. Uzbekistan joined the format
in 1999, leaving it in 4 years. The first GUAM summit was held in Kiev
in 2006. GUAM became an international organization, renamed to
Organization for Democracy and Economic Development
