Germany hands over to Russia suspect in Dagestani MP attack

Germany has extradited to Russia a man accused of taking part in an attempt on the life of the Dagestani MP Magomed-Rasul Omarov, a Prosecutor General's Office spokesperson said, as reported by ITAR-TASS.

“On April 22, 2002 Davud Davudov was one of a group of people who carried out an attempt on the life of Dagestani MP Omarov,” spokesperson Marina Gridneva said.

Davudov was arrested in Hanover in 2007 on charges connected to robberies in Germany. His participation in the assassination attempt came to light while he was serving time in Germany.

In 2009, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation submitted a request to the German authorities for his extradition.

“As Russia is known by its foreign partners, including Germany, as a reliable partner, the German authorities decided in February 2010 to extradite him,” Gridneva said, adding that Davudov is already in Russia.
