37th meeting of PABSEC General Assembly opens in Kiev

The current plenary meeting of the General Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) will be an important contribution to the development of interparliamentary cooperation and the strengthening of all forms of cooperation between the states of the Black Sea region, Ukrainian Parliament Speaker and PABSEC President Volodymyr Lytvyn has said, while opening the 37th plenary meeting of the General Assembly of the PABSEC in Kiev on Friday, Ukranian Radio reports.

"Our joint success depends on insistent efforts for the practical implementation of the principles of neighborhood, stable economic development, the mutually beneficial exchange of technological and cultural developments, and respect for the environment," he said. The meeting is attended by delegations from 12 member countries of the PABSEC, in particular, Azerbaijan, Albania, Armenia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine. It is expected that during the meeting of the PABSEC General Assembly, which will last until July 2, the meeting participants will discuss legislative support for the transition to the "green" economy, the issue of genetically modified organisms in the member countries of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, the role of parliaments in ensuring legislative support for scientific and technical progress, and compliance with the standards of the World Health Organization. The ceremony to hand over Ukraine's chairmanship of the PABSEC to Albania will be held on Saturday.
