Turkey has recognized the National Transitional Council of Libya as
the only legitimate government in Libya. All relations with Muammar
Gaddafi have been broken and the Turkish ambassador to Tripoli
withdrawn. RIA Novosti reports.
Benghazi is the Libyan opposition center. The Turkish foreign minister
met with opposition representatives and promised to provide it with
$200 million. $100 million was provided earlier.
The conflict in Libya started in mid-February. The UN Security Council
passed a resolution in mid-March, closing Libyan air space to stop
attacks on rebels and the civilian population.
The rebels formed the National Transitional Council in Benghazi on
February 27. It consists of 30 opposition members from eastern parts
of Libya. The NTC is headed by Mustafa Abdul Jalil, former Secretary
of the Supreme People’s Committee of Justice in Libya, a post which he
left on February 26.
