Georgia to make punishments for members of illegal armed formations harsher

Georgia has passed amendments to its Criminal Code. The organization
of illegal armed formations and their supervision is liable for a
punishment of 6-12 years imprisonment, membership with 3-7 years and
financing of them with 5-8 years, Georgia Online reports.

The law defines an armed formation to be any formation of people with
firearms, explosives, tear, nerve, radioactive substances or equipment
that may be used to harm living creatures or facilities.

Those who give up voluntarily and hand over the proscribed items are
entitled to amnesty.

The amendments to the Georgian Criminal Code were introduced after the
events in Tbilisi of May 21-26.
