During an extraordinary meeting, the Georgian parliament approved
amendments to the law on the rules of issuing passports and identity
cards for citizens of Georgia and foreigners living in Georgia,
according to which the residents of Abkhazia and South Ossetia will be
able to obtain neutral identity papers and travel documents, Yuga.ru reports.
People with neutral documents can enter the territory of Abkhazia and
South Ossetia from any direction. The owners of neutral identity can
enjoy all the social benefits of the citizens of Georgia, can engage
in industrial and non-commercial activities, be employed in the
private and public sectors, receive grants and soft loans etc.
A neutral travel document will allow the bearer to legally go abroad
and enjoy all the current benefits of citizens of Georgia in terms of
visa arrangements with foreign countries. The neutral travel document
will not use the Georgian language.
