The second Abkhaz president, Sergey Bagapsh, who died in May 2011, has
become a Hero of Abkhazia and received the Order of Honour and Glory
of the first degree. The order for awards was signed by acting
President Alexander Ankvab, RIA Novosti reports.
The Order of Honour and Glory is the highest state reward in Abkhazia,
awarded for great achievements in military operations, science,
culture and art.
Bagapsh died after lung surgery in Moscow, aged 62. Bagapsh headed the
republic in 2005-2011.
