Part of Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps resign for elections

9 members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) have resigned to take part in the parliamentary polls in spring 2012, Chairman of the State Electoral Commission Solyat Murtazavi said, Trend reports.


Murtazavi said earlier that 52 state functionaries filed resignation notes for the polls.


They include 4 deputies of heads of provinces, 11 executive chiefs, two chairmen of municipalities, 16 rectors of universities, three deputy executive chiefs and deputy ministers.


The Iranian Electoral Code says that functionaries willing to participate in the parliamentary polls on March 12, 2012, need to resign by June 30.
