Libya suspended from Parliamentary Assembly in Mediterranean Union

The Parliamentary Assembly (PA) of the Mediterranean Union has temporarily suspended the observer’s status of Libya as "a clear political signal of protest against the brutal repression of Muammar Qaddafi," western media reports.

The Mediterranean Union was established in July 2008 on the initiative of French President Nicolas Sarkozy as a continuation of the partnership between the European states and South Mediterranean countries, launched in Barcelona in 1995 on the initiative of then Prime Minister of Spain Felipe Gonzalez.

The Union includes 43 States,  27 of which are EU member states.
