Kalmykia and Iran to build new Trans-Caspian connection

Kalmykia and the Iranian corporation MJ Kaveh Group have signed a
memorandum on development and realization of a new port in Lagani, the
Kalmyk coast of the Caspian Sea, in 2011-2015. The document was signed
by the Vice-Premier of Kalmykia, Vyacheslav Ilumzhinov, and the head
of the administration of Lagadan District, Andrey Manjiyev, Iran News
reports.


Lagadan will have a major ferry service in 3-5 years. Lagadan has a
42km-long railway connection with Ulan-Khol. The parameters of the
project will be determined in August-September. The annual volume of
freight of the new port may reach 15 million tons.


The Astrakhan-Volga railway is important for construction of the
Lagadan – Ulah-Khol – Volgograd line.
